There’s sad news for Subaru Legacy fans as Subaru of America, Inc. has announced that production of the beloved Legacy sedan will come to an end next year, at the conclusion of the 2025 model year. This decision marks the end of an era for the Subaru Legacy, a vehicle that has been a staple in the Subaru lineup for decades.

The Subaru Legacy, initially designed for the American market, first made its debut in 1989 as the first Subaru manufactured in the United States at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant. Known for its exceptional safety and reliability, over 94% of Subaru Legacy vehicles sold in the last decade are still on the road today, solidifying its reputation as a long-lasting and trusted vehicle. Additionally, the Legacy has been recognized as an Insurance Institute of Highway Safety Top Safety Pick for an impressive 18 consecutive years.

Throughout its six generations, the Subaru Legacy has garnered over 1.3 million sales in the U.S. market. A trailblazer in its category, the Legacy introduced advanced technologies such as multi-point fuel injection, four-wheel disc brakes, fully independent suspension, and the availability of Full-Time AWD. The Legacy also played a pivotal role in the creation of the iconic Subaru Outback, building on its success and legacy in the automotive industry.

However, market trends towards SUVs and crossovers, coupled with Subaru’s shift towards electrified and fully electric vehicles, have influenced the decision to discontinue the Legacy line. Subaru Corporation, the parent company of Subaru of America, Inc., has previously announced plans to produce eight EV models by the year 2028, including the Solterra EV introduced in the 2023 model year.

The final production year of the Legacy will see the 2025 model arrive at Subaru retailers starting at a price of $24,895, maintaining the same starting price as the outgoing 2024 model year. Noteworthy features such as the award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology will come standard on all 2025 Legacy models, ensuring a continued commitment to safety and innovation until the very end.

As Subaru bids farewell to the Legacy sedan in 2025, enthusiasts and owners alike can reflect on the legacy of this iconic vehicle that has left a lasting impression on the automotive industry and Subaru brand as a whole.
