IIHS announced today that the 2024 Subaru Forester has received the highest possible rating for their new, tougher vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention test. The updated testing specifically targets crashes occurring at higher speeds and those involving motorcycles or large trucks. The Forester stood out among 10 small SUVs tested, being the only vehicle to achieve the coveted “Good” rating(the highest possible rating).
The original front crash prevention evaluation by IIHS focused on low-speed crashes, with all tested vehicles earning the top rating of superior. However, real-world data suggested that higher-speed crashes were not adequately covered. This led to the introduction of tests conducted at 31, 37, and 43 mph, including trials targeting a passenger car, a motorcycle, and a semitrailer. Through these rigorous evaluations, the Forester excelled, avoiding collisions and demonstrating substantial speed reductions in the automatic emergency braking tests.
Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc., expressed his excitement over the Forester’s performance in the new test, highlighting the brand’s commitment to prioritizing safety in all their models. The 2024 Forester combines SUV capability with a car-like ride and handling, equipped with features such as Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring. With a starting price of $27,095, the Forester offers consumers a top-rated vehicle with exceptional safety standards.
In addition to its recent achievement, the Forester retains its 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK award and has been an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK for an impressive 17 consecutive years (2007-2023). Subaru’s dedication to safety is further underscored by the fact that since 2013, the brand has received a total of 71 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, surpassing all other automotive brands.
